After breakfast, today’s trip will begin on the road of 1001 Kasbahs to the oasis of Tinghir. You will enjoy the amazing scenery along the way from the remaining fortified villages that housed the caravan routes until the early 20th century. Arrived at Tinghir, which was a military post during the French occupation, we will branch off along a secondary road towards the oasis. After lunch at one of the local cafes, we continue to Rissani, which is one of the holiest cities in Morocco, as Morocco’s ruling royal dynasty (the Alawites) was born here and its founder is buried locally. Rissani is also famous as the starting point of the old caravan routes that cross the Sahara Desert to Tomboctou.
From there, we will cross rocky terrain until we reach Merzouga, where our camel caravan will be waiting for us. Enjoy a camel ride over the Erg Chebbi dunes to admire an incredible sunset, before returning to our camp in the Sahara desert, located in the middle of nowhere.
